Bioidentical Hormones (BHRT) To Treat The Symptoms Of Menopause

Everyone should have questions about hormone replacement therapy and Bioidentical Hormones are used to treat the symptoms of menopause, perimenopause and postmenopause. They are different to synthetic hormones as they have the identical chemical structure to the hormones found in the human body, and it is this that is supposed to make them more effective.

This makes BH more effective and cocktails are ordered which fit perfectly with the needs of each individual. This means that every patient receives exactly the amount of hormones required and everyone is after all unique. These hormones are also manufactured from natural organic substances such as soybeans and wild yam, and as we all know, plant extracts are far more beneficial than synthetically manufactured chemicals. This fact also makes Bioidentical Hormones more cost effective.

Much like a pair of reading glasses of the strength you require can be purchased in a pharmacy, so too can different strengths of bioidentical hormones. The prescription, or strength a particular person (woman) requires is based on the outcome of a series of tests conducted on examination, by a doctor. He then orders your prerequisite dosage by prescription from the pharmacy.

This helps the doctor to find out what stage of hormone decline the patient is experiencing. They then administer a static dose which is tweaked after a certain amount of time. The perfect scenario is to achieve a completely normal hormone level, much like the body would manufacture naturally.

Dosage can be administers by suppository, injection, the application of creams and orally. There is also a new method of treatment, as well as static dosing, called rhythmic cycling. This is a new approach and its aim is to completely match the hormonal status of a woman at the peak of her reproductive cycle.

HRT and BHRT in particular has become very important, its importance ahs become more evident from research studies. The decline of hormones in the female body has been proven to be responsible for causing premature death by heart attack, stroke and the dreaded breast cancer, particularly during post menopause. The female body is most protected in its 30’s as this when peak hormone balance is reached.

Progesterone begins to decline in the late 30’s and about ten years after that comes the decline in estrogens. In particular Estriol (E3) which protects the body from blood clots and protects the breasts. The decrease in production of this hormone is dramatic, as from 80% it drops to 10%. Estrone or E1 increases and this proves to enhance blood clotting and is also carcinogenic to the breasts. HRT is therefore considered to be a preventative measure.

Huge research has been conducted on synthetic hormones, and they have found to weight towards E1 production. They are not able to identically imitate female hormones whereas Bioidentical Hormones can.

If BHRT is commenced within ten years of the onset of menopause, solid conclusions have been reported regarding heart, brain, bones, skin and breast protection. This knowledge tells us that we will live longer and better lives than those before us and this is good news. As we approach old age it is better to be lively, happy and healthy, than in a wheelchair or a victim of premature death.
