Do So-Called Diet Foods Actually Help Us Lose Weight?

Have you seen food labels that advertise low calorie, low carbohydrate, reduced fat, or other diet claims. Even though these types of food are everywhere, Americans are still overweight. We have to wonder if any of these diet foods really help.

What Diet Foods Will Help us Lose Weight?

High water content foods provide satisfaction without adding a lot of calories. They also tend to provide healthy vitamins and minerals. Almost all vegetables and fruits make good choices. They help us feel satisfied without adding a lot of calories.

Take Meat on the Side

You do not have to give up your favorite foods either. You should just reorganize the way you take portions of foods. Instead of piling your plate high with roast beef, pile it with salad and veggies. Put a little meat on the side, or chop it up to sprinkle over your salad. Your stomach will still tell your brain you ate a lot of food, but you may consume half the calories!

Fruit is Nature’s Wonder Food

Almost everybody likes fruit. It is probably programmed in our genes. You would have to eat a lot of handfuls of sweet grapes to equal the calorie content of one small candy bar. Those grapes will also give your body vitamins and minerals, and will help you feel satisfied.

Chocolate as Diet Food

If you should not eat a lot of chocolate while dieting, you can certainly enjoy chocolate drinks! Try low fat chocolate milk or hot chcolate. This is great. For a few calories you can satisfy a chocolate craving, and you can take in protein, vitamins, and minerals.

Food with No Real Calories

We want you to enjoy your favorite foods. Just try to stick in some things that will not add a lot of calories (or any) to your diet. Slice up onions, peppers, and zuchini to bulk up spaghetti sauce. Even if you use meat and cheese, a serving will contain far less calories.

We have also found some foods that are very high in fiber so they contribute almost no calories to your diet. Konnyaku noodles are a popular example. These Japanese noodles are mostly water and fiber, and they provide satisfying pasta without a lot of calories or carbs.

What About A Night Out?

You can go to your favorite restaurants. Try to start your meal with a large salad. When you order your meal, select vegetables or fruit instead of fries. If you have to have dessert, try to order fruit.

Have You Found Diet Foods?

Experts have tested diets. They found that people who concentrate on eating a lot of high water content and high fiber food, without giving up favorite treats, tend to take off weight and keep it off.
